Futhark – runic alphabet

The archaeological excavations at Bryggen has given us a magnificent collection of runic inscriptions. We find trade letters, receipts, poetry, religious inscriptions, ownership marks and inscriptions with almost verbal utterances. This large variation suggests that runes were known and used by a large proportion of the population in the city during the Middle Ages. The runes contain mostly straight lines, so that they were easy to carve with a knife in a piece of wood or similar.  Continue reading “Futhark – runic alphabet”

2 days in Oslo.

Exploring a new city usually starts when you arrive. But when it happens after 5 pm, it can be really hard. So you began to just wander around new places, looking like a child who got their candy. Every building and every person mesmerizes you, and you try to capture everything in one breath. Then the night suddenly comes and you set your alarm at 7 am, so you can see everything tomorrow. It’s the only time when the hour on the alarm doesn’t upset you but excites you.

4 days in Bergen – Mount Ulriken [4].

So this the final day of my visit to Bergen. Because I love mountain hiking and had nothing fun to do in the city, I thought why not go ‘carpe diem’ and hike to Mount Ulriken. My friend, Frode, told me that it’s a really simple and fun trail. I woke up around 8 am., ate some porridge (Norwegians make the best porridge, trust me) and went out for my adventure. The weather was really nice and promising, so no worries were in my head at that moment.

4 days in Bergen – Mostraumen [3].

After all these misty mist I was so hopeless about the weather that I was kinda shocked when the sun came to the city. It was really hot and summerish, so I decided to go to the floibanen again. Because I had got tickets to Mostraumen at 1 am., I had some time free till this hour.  I have never made a better decision. The sky was so clear that day, so I basically saw the whole Bergen from the top of the Fløyen.
